World Performances – Enjoy the finest performing arts

The highlight of the festival is a series of world-class performances of the globe. From the afternoon until nightfall, Geinoh Yamashirogumi will perform in the festival plaza one after the other, bringing the audience essence of the performing arts nurtured by traditional communities in Japan and around the world, accompanied by hyper-sonic sound that exceeds the cutting edge high-resolution audio.

Giant Bamboo Ensemble “Jegog” (Bali, Indonesia)

A bamboo percussion orchestra with a rich sound range of five octaves, from earth-shaking ultra-heavy bass to light high notes. The pipe-organ-like heavy bass and mellow, warm high notes are a must-hear. A live performance of “Symphonic Suite AKIRA” fused with human voices and electronic instruments will be presented. In order to keep the original sound of Jegog in Japan, new bamboo is constantly being imported from Bali and replaced with the most suitable ones.

Drums of Michinoku (Shishi Odori (deer dance), Japan)

Shisi Odori (deer dance, Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture) represents one of the most splendid artistic achievements in Japan’s traditional performing arts. The Okuyama Gyojoryu Mochida Shishi Odori Preservation Society, one of the most sophisticated group among approximately 100 Odori groups in Iwate Prefecture, will perform a special performance.

Bulgarian Female Chorus (Bulgaria)

Bulgarian polyphony captivates the world with its striking sound. The unique harmonies, melodies, and non-vibrato sounds that shake the depths of the soul are performed by adding the charm of the Japanese voice and expression.

Georgian Male Chorus (Georgia)

Miraculous polyphony, designated by UNESCO for the first time as “Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity” (Intangible World Heritage). Steel like strong voice, harmony of different dimension created by the unique temperament, and depth of spirituality are the listening points.

Performance and dance of “Gamelan,” a symphony of bronze (Bali, Indonesia)

The glorious melody and thrilling 16 beats of Bali’s “Symphony of Bronze” are intoxicating. The rich tone content of inaudible ultra-high frequency components enhances the brain functions of beauty and pleasure, and brings about a deep sense of relaxation. To the brilliant gamelan music, mature dancers perform graceful, intense, and dreamlike dances.

Cak (Indonesian Magical choral dance performance)

Cak, a Balinese magical choral dance performance, is performed around a burning light in the darkness of the night. The 16 beats rhythm produced by the men acting as a military force, who chime in with their sharp “cha-cha-cha” voices with precision, and their unwavering herd movements, reflect the “A-un” breathing (without words or direction) that has been cultivated by the traditional Balinese community. Within this circle, dancers in gorgeous costumes and masks perform the dreamscape of the Ramayana, an ancient Indian epic. The ultimate spectacle on earth will send performers and audience into a state of trance.
